She’s laying out sophisticated caricatures for the banner and the margins, the Blog Studio will be responsible for programming to improve the user interface. The goal is to give first time readers a better impression of what this blog is about.

The Kisses

Kisses are really important. I think they tell a lot about how a person loves. I’m thinking of the kisses I’ve had in my life, some of them very recently, have stood out. Some are fervent and drunk, some are desperate and fevered.

Some men have big tongues and insist on slobbering as they kiss. That’s gross. I can’t be with a guy that slobbers, it’s just not in my nature. If I wanted to feel saliva on my face, I’d get a dog. Then again, it’s been said that men are dogs. So let’s steer away.

I like my head and face held when I’m kissed, yet kissing a man is different from kissing a woman.

I think back to the days when I was “experimenting”; girls for some reason would come up to me and randomly kiss me. I remember when I was on internship, this cute little girl. I’ve forgotten her name, she’d come and steal a peck, when she was really boozed up, she’d smack kiss me on the lips and I’d embrace her, she was one of the first to tell me that women liked soft kisses. I tended to kiss strongly, liking the feel warring tongues. During that time I wondered why kissing this girl was never truly satisfying.

Men like the power of a kiss, the connection of masculinity and the connection to self. When I kissed women, if memory serves - first kisses were reserved and simple, while gay kisses are full of fever and emotional intoxication. Often they require a second round. Of course there is no standard. I haven’t kissed a woman in a very long time, so I have no follow up experience.

A good lover, in turn a good partner, will rotate a kiss, pull back and wait, will feel if he’s uncomforting and can feel comfort. One can tell a lot from a priceless kiss, kisses have their own language and moment. A good kiss will usher in a relationship a bad kiss can tell that the end is near.

So kisses are living breathing things and I will hold on to the good ones a long time to come, I have fonder memories of kisses then the act of sex.

Shortly After Take Off is a Play Worth Seeing

Every once in a great while, a jewel is discovered; that’s how I felt after I saw Shortly After Take Off.

I had the chance to see this play through a theater list I’m on. I check out Off Off Broadway stuff as regularly as I can, after all it is the proving ground of theater.

The play is set to parallel the Vietnam era with our own time. A manic mother truly obsessed with herself, doesn’t have the ability to listen to her own sons. So afraid to be alone after her husband dies. She marries the first kind man to show interest. Her own delusional self involvement alienates her family. Her fifteen year old son is caught in that awkward teenage place, trying to develop his own place in the world and voice as an artist while caught in his families dysfunctional tornado.

The acting merges remarkably well with the difficult script. It does lack a bit of creativity, yet makes up for it in shear passion. I was marveled and quite overjoyed to watch the actors bring the characters alive with such vibrant fervor. I truly cared about the characters and found myself understanding the hard choices they had to make.

Oh, there are also cute boys in the play. I know, it shouldn’t matter yet it does.

For $20 you can see a really great play that’s really worth watching. It’s not light yet is a perfect date outing. Buy tickets at TheaterMania. The production runs till April 2nd. I hope you get a chance to see it.

The Second Day of Jury Duty

The paint is drying much slower today. I’m over the novelty of the moment. I hope they don’t call my name. I hope they don’t call my name, I hope they don’t call my name.

The plan, if they do. As I told a friend. If they call my name, I’ll tell them that all people who’ve drank cool-aid, need to be fined a million dollars (this is civil court, I can’t jail them) Yes; that’s what I’ll do. I hate all people that drink cool-aid.

I wonder what would happen if the judge found this blog post, maybe that would get me kicked off the jury. That would mean that the judge was gay. To many weird thoughts. Much too weird even for me.

Isn't this the time I should be pondering about the grander meaning of jury duty or something like that.

Jury Duty

A canned post was slated for today. I did not expect to have the ability to connect to the Internet and have a laptop in the jury pool. Yet I do. So I'm releasing both posts.

Right now I am performing my civic duty and watching paint dry. Yes I am serving on a jury, or more likely am part of the pool of people they will unlikely call. I'm really in it for the experience. I watch Law and Order all the time.

Frankly I want to see someone break down on the stand. I know that's mean but like I said I've been watching too many cop shows.

I hope I'll meet a cute boy, I mean, not someone who's either defendant or plaintiff. So we'll see what happens. In the mean time. I'm going to be reading a lot and bitching about all the time I'm loosing. All I can hope for, is that a good story will come out of the experience, or at least a few blog posts.

Live: First Day of Jury Duty

There’s a lot of waiting going on. The guy has processed my summons; it took a few key strokes on a very old computer. My thoughts focus on the ease of his government job and the fact that he’s the only government employee that I’ve ever encountered, that’s actually smiling.

The pool, the holding pen, painted with murals and wood panels is filled with people, some in pin stripe suits and business shirts, women that have their hair done with iPods strapped to their ears are a plenty. There are people unkempt and those immaculately groomed. I’m checking out a guy that looks like a very young Hugh Grant, he’s wearing a really tight shirt that shows off his dancers body. He’s smiled at the girl in front of him so I don’t know if he plays for the side of the bench that I’m on (figured I should use a somewhat legal reference).

They’ve played a tape that features the history of jury duty, they mention that people were once dunked in water and hands stuck in boiling water to judge innocence (is this supposed to make me feel better), now there’s a judge, with a strong old voice, that has the sing song up and down nature of a seasoned public speaker. He’s motivating us, insuring us the value of our service; mentioning that trials are interesting.

I’m more interested in the Hugh Grant type, he’s listening to everything intently, he’s also reading the weather section of the New York Times, this perplexes me, his arms are well sculpted and seem strong.  He’s the only one in the room that seems nervous, even as he reads the paper.

I on the other hand have my laptop, iPod and cell phone, my very portable writing office. So I’m content to work all day and have little distraction; of course unless I’m called to perform public service.

They’ve called the first batch of names, I’m not among them. Of course this is always an odd thing. I always want to go to the podium and ask if it’s correct. I’m prone to spacing out and missing my own name. Friends know this about me. They often make sure to email me directions so I can plug addresses into my Palm Pilot; I’m truly unable to retain simple cross streets. So listening for my name at jury service, might be a task that I might not be apt for. Does that automatically make me unqualified, or will they throw me in jail? Huh. We’ll have to see. Will I hit on the cute Hugh Grant type? Stay tuned.

The play workshop is part of the past now. I'm happy and excited it's over and I can now move on to edits.

It's Alive, It's Alive

After being very fearful for a while, about my four year workhorse dell. I'm afraid, have been for a while that it was going to simply give out on me. I called Dell and discovered that they could offer me 0% financing for 18 months.

So yes. I have it a proud new notebook computer. Something quite practical. It's nice I'm really excited by it. It's going to be fun carrying a computer to coffee shops as well as my palm.

I have lots of work to set it up properly and I don't have all the software I need. A wonderful reader donated Microsoft office to me. It's really all I need, the rest is just fluff. I am a writer after all.

I have to runaway now and work on a few computer related things. I've spent all day trying to figure it out and update my software. When I'm done. I'll be really really excited with my new toy.

Straight Boys Bathroom

I’ve been taking a grant writing workshop. It’s strange the need to identify myself as gay, right off the bat. We needed to go around the room, mention our names and the project we’re working on. I mean all my grant writing work is to support my body of art. Which is gay literary fiction. So yeah. That’s what I write. I also had a few – very straight boys in the room - insecure and fragile in their sexuality as well. Which caused me pause. Not since high school have I felt so odd with men in a room giving me side way stares.

During the final grant session I needed to use the WC. One of the boys, refused to make eye contact with me during the entire session.

It's one of those office bathrooms, you need to ask the code before using the facilities. No one really remembers it. So yes, I asked for the code. The minute I did. I noticed the odd delay; the boy, he's a married actor. His wife is actually there. In the room. I mean, a long time ago. I found reluctance and insecurity tied too self. So yes - I felt him linger and decide to wait until I bolted for the mens room.

Sure enough. I get to the WC first. Another straight boy follows and is very careful not to make eye contact and plays with his phone. He also makes sure to cover himself, appropriately, like I'm going to pounce or something. In truth, neither one is really my type and I'm really not interested. I'm just curious, as I often am, by peoples reaction.

The guy that feigns the linger, shortly enters as I wash up, he enters the bathroom, funny thing is. The two of them start to loosen up. Like girls joined in comrodory. Okay, maybe not girls, they are butch men after all, using a very straight bathroom. Yet they make eye contact while peeing and I'm washing my hands pretending to be oblivious. I leave not wanting to interrupt their bonding experience. This is when I make a phone call and stay in the hall, quite far away from the lue. Strange thing is, they both leave the restroom together, they both have a sense of relief. Not that I'm paranoid or anything, yet I'm all to familiar with the look. Like I said from my insecure days in High School.

We enter back into the workshop, everyone sits and becomes quiet. I find the experience thoroughly odd.

Would I be chopping onions in designer jeans while listening to my iPod.
