I have actually, you know the people on the train, or I don't know how you people elsewhere do things. Yet people in New York have things growing out of their ears. They're white things that grow and often cause the head to rock and jive and move a bit. So people miss their stops because they can't hear the conductor. I am now one of these cult members. I went to Circuit City and I bought my iPod. Yes that was my initiation into the cult of the iPod and now I have white things, which are quite cute btw grooving out of my ears.
I like having this little device, I bought the Nano actually. It's so sleek and sexy, makes me wish it actually has a vibrate feature, maybe I wouldn't have the need for a boyfriend if it did. It does speak sweat nothings in my ear mind you.
An attachment yes, this gorgeous little device must also be plugged in. So I bought a stereo just for my little Nano iPod thingy. It sites on my bookshelf looking important. Mind you I'm excited by it because, well, I think I'm now a yippy, I've never really belonged anywhere or to any such mass market appeal community. Yet this cult that I have joined, doesn't recognize the importance of eye contact. Instead I can drift into my thoughts to Faithless, Dido or some random thing I downloaded or got from a friend. I also have the Golden Girls theme song on my pod btw.
So what do you have on your iPod I want to know and more importantly. I want to know how this cult operates in your area.
I listen to podcasts from CBC 3 (The Canadian alt-music scene) and C-PAC (the Canadian parliamentary channel - nerdy, yes), and I listen to Open Source Sex, with Violet Blue. For music, currently, it's G&R, Tegan and Sara, and Kinnie Starr. I take the earbuds out when I board or unload from transit (bus or train). And I find that with music or talk blaring in my ears I'm not nearly as attentive to traffic (foot or other) around me and I've nearly been run over by cars making unexpected turns or acceleration. I love your blog. MVL

I've been living in Italy for the last 6 months and the only other cult members are all my fellow Canadian classmates (all 26 of us) and the American students (thousand upon thousands of them). The Florentines don't really do the digital music. My ipod broke and I lasted about 2 months before I went and bought a shuffle, it well last me till I get back to Canada and get the real deal.
