I've done a post on the meaning of cocktails before. Now I’m left pondering mixers.
Sitting at a bar of course; you can't help exposing yourself to a variety: I'm not just mentioning the standard mixers. Those are for more habitual drinkers like myself.
My vodka soda is a careful choice in slimming. Beer; I can't drink beer. It's just chalked full of empty calories. Well okay. When drinking it’s important to think like a dietician. For a while I thought cranberry was a good mixer, I figured if I drank a juice with my cocktail: that would be a somewhat healthy choice, yet, I didn't take into account how few bars, especially the seedy dive bars; that I go to :-) actually have real juice. So there: I've explained my very steady choice and history of mixer. For a while I was drinking tonic, than I found out its calorie count. Soda, I’ve stuck with for a while.
Now; on to the stranger variety. Frozen drinks in February. I don't get that. I've seen numerous people order these monstrosities and keep their very warm coats on. Mind boggling.
Pineapple. Again, I don't get it, isn't it too sweat. Now when I was a waiter people asked for vodka and grape juice or apple juice. That just seems icky. I think of pineapple as something best ordering in the Florida Keys.
The strangest concoction I've ever come across is Malibu Rum, pineapple and cranberry. Sweet drinks just make me fearful of the hangover sure to follow the next day.
There are many such strange concoctions in the realm of the cocktail. I'm remember: when I first started drinking wine I considered White Zinfandel to be yummy. More please. Then I learned… agian, when I was young I used to drink Long Island Ice Teas. Then I threw up in someone’s car. So wasn't pretty. I very shyly cleaned it up. Never again.
So yes! I do feel strongly about mixers, yet shouldn't you?
I once went on date with a guy, who only drank Peach Champaign Martinis. Let’s just say he was a very complicated sort of person.
yes, i feel the same way about mixers, but i too still believe white zinfandels to be yummy. "more please"! *tear* I'll learn soon, but the LI ice teas? not me unless i'm looking to crash hard, really fast; i'll stick to my martinis, always a fav. always a must.
